Here is part two of two K100RT PROJECT BIKES at Bob’s! OK, maybe it’s not that exciting but it sure does bring some interesting opportunities to the table if one were to consider taking tow PROJECT BIKES and building one running bike and have a bunch of very saleable parts left over or just keep a lifetimes worth of spares around. Oh yeah, then there’s the other all black K100 with the Pichler fairing and 3 bags that could be played with too. This one is much cleaner overall but as you can see there is no RT bodywork remaining.
This was someone else’s long term project that never got finished. That person had owned the bike since 1989 and according to what he told us it was his misfortune that caused it to become a “project”. He got as far as removing all the damaged bits and throwing them away and then slowly purchasing new parts to rebuild it all and simply never got around to that part. We believe that the new body parts are gone already.
Whatever the incident was that caused the fairing to be broken it does not appear to have caused damage to other critical parts like the frame, forks, wheels, etc. In fact what is here on this rolling chassis looks pretty decent overall. We feel the mileage is accurate and the seller confirmed this by signing a Federal Odometer statement; we can’t do any more than that. The plastic container of hardware appears to all be BMW fairing bolts, screws, washers and retainers plus a turn signal. All of the damage appears to be cosmetic and there are other small nicks, scratches and marks plus one obvious repair that was begun on the seat cowling. There’s a small dent in the tank clearly shown in one of these good photos.
The seat itself is very serviceable but not perfect. It does have a good looking and complete all black Luftmeister 4 into 1 system. The wheels are very clean and appear fully straight and true. There is an adjustable rear Koni shock that looks good and shows no weepage at this time. As we indicated earlier the forks look good and travel as they should, the brake discs all appear to be in good condition, the front master cylinder evens still works. The rear master cylinder does not function and there are no parts inside the fuel tank. We cannot tell you what shape the engine, trans or final drive is in but the clutch still allows us to engage and go through the gears and the motor did turn over when we attempted that in 4th or 5th gear.
We speculate that with a new battery, fuel pump and other tank internals, fresh fluids, master cylinder rebuild or replacement and some new tires this bike could probably be running and on the road in a weekend. Yeah it might be nice and smart to rig up a headlight of some kind. I’ll bet the Parts experts at Bob’s could help with something here – maybe a used standard option no less. This could turn into a very nice café racer project with some creative efforts and of course it could be a cheap parts bike as well if that’s all you desire.
It has just one key but like all other offerings a clear title ready to be transferred to a new owner. Priced to make space here at Bob’s for other things.
